From the top down
Numbers 1 to 3 are the top: the vanity top, the sink set in it and the backsplash behind. Numbers 4 to 9 are the cabinet: the face frame, the door with its hinges, the shelf inside, the drawers and the pulls. Number 10, the toe kick, is at the floor.
- The vanity is the cabinet. The vanity top is the separate slab that sits on it.
- The pipes under the sink have names of their own: they are on the sink diagram.
Questions and answers
What are the parts of a vanity called?
The vanity top carries the sink and has a backsplash behind it. The cabinet under it has a face frame, doors on hinges, drawers, shelves and pulls. The recess along the floor is the toe kick.
What is the top of a vanity called?
The vanity top. It is the countertop of the vanity, a slab set down on the cabinet with the sink in it. The short strip that stands against the wall behind it is the backsplash.
What is the toe kick on a vanity?
The recessed space between the bottom of the cabinet and the floor. It leaves room for your feet, so that you can stand close to the top.
Is a vanity a cabinet or a dressing table?
Both use the word. In a bathroom a vanity is the cabinet under the sink. In a bedroom a vanity, or vanity table, is a dressing table: a table made for dressing and grooming.
