From the center outward
Start at the center. The inner bull is the small circle and the outer bull is the ring round it. Twenty segments fan out from there, each with a number on the number ring. Every segment is crossed by two narrow bands: the triple ring about halfway out and the double ring at its outer end. The wide parts between them are the single areas. The wires that mark all these edges are called the spider.
- Triple ring and treble ring are the same ring. Treble is the British word, and both are accepted.
- The throwing line has an old name, the oche, pronounced okky.
Questions and answers
What are the parts of a dartboard called?
From the center outward: the inner bull, the outer bull, the inner single area, the triple ring, the outer single area and the double ring. The wires between them are the spider, and the numbers sit on the number ring.
What is the middle of a dartboard called?
The bull, or bullseye. It has two parts. The small inner circle, the inner bull, scores 50. The ring round it, the outer bull, scores 25.
What are the rings on a dartboard?
Two narrow rings cross every segment. The inner one is the triple ring, which scores three times the segment's number. The one at the outer edge is the double ring, which scores double.
What is the wire on a dartboard called?
The spider. It is the web of wires that divides the face of the board into its scoring areas. The separate wire ring that carries the numbers is the number ring.
