How it works

Hanbok means Korean clothes. A woman's set is a jacket, the jeogori, over a long skirt, the chima. A man's is a jeogori over trousers, the baji. The drawings name each garment, then the parts of the jeogori.

The garments

Hanbok is a top and a bottom piece, cut and sewn flat. The durumagi is a long coat worn over the jacket for going out. Beoseon are padded socks, daenim tie the trouser legs at the ankles, and a norigae is a pendant women wear.

The jeogori

The jacket is made of body panels (gil) and sleeves (somae). The git trims the neck, with the white dongjeong laid over its edge. The seop lets one front lap over the other, and the goreum tie it shut.

  • The names are Korean, spelled as Korea spells them today. Older books write chogori, paji and turumagi for jeogori, baji and durumagi; both are accepted.
