How it works
A pivot chart has the parts of any chart (title, plot area, axes, legend, data series) plus field buttons that filter it, fed by the four areas of the field list: Filters, Columns, Rows and Values.

Where each field goes
Rows fields run along the category axis and get the axis field button. Columns fields become the series and put their button over the legend. Filters fields go to the report filter button at the top, and Values fields set the bar heights.
Quiz and print
Quiz me asks the chart parts first, then the buttons and the field list. Print it blank, with lines to write on, or labeled as the key.
- Field buttons can be hidden before you print or share a pivot chart; the chart itself does not change.
Questions and answers
What is the difference between a pivot chart and a regular chart?
A pivot chart is drawn from a pivot table and changes when the table does. It carries field buttons that a regular chart lacks, so you can filter and rearrange it on the chart itself.
What are the field buttons on a pivot chart?
The report filter button at the top filters the whole chart. The axis field button at the bottom works on the categories, and the legend field button on the series. Each opens a list to filter or sort.
What do the four areas of the field list do?
Filters limit the whole chart, Rows set the categories along the horizontal axis, Columns set the series shown in the legend, and Values hold the numbers summed into the bar heights.
