Blank, numbered or named

The sheet opens blank. Choose Numbered to put a number on each of the nine countries, or Named for their names, then press Print this map. Print the answer key gives the names on a sheet of its own.

Three states too small to write on

Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and Monaco each have a ring joined by a line. Luxembourg sits where Belgium, France and Germany meet, Liechtenstein between Switzerland and Austria, and Monaco on the Mediterranean coast of France, close to Italy.

  • Class lists of Western Europe often add Britain, Ireland, Spain, Portugal and Italy. For those, print the blank map of Europe.

Questions and answers

Which countries are in Western Europe?

Nine in the United Nations list: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands and Switzerland. All nine are numbered on this map.

Why are the United Kingdom, Spain and Italy not numbered?

The United Nations list files the United Kingdom and Ireland under Northern Europe, and Spain, Portugal and Italy under Southern Europe. They are drawn here without numbers; the blank map of Europe numbers every country.

France, with coasts on both the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Germany, to its east, is the second largest, and Austria the third.
