How it works
Label the minutes on the clock one box at a time. Each number on the face is also a count of minutes: the box outside it lights up and you pick how many, starting at the 12 and going round.

Count by fives
The minute hand takes sixty minutes to go right round, and there are twelve numbers, so each number is five more minutes than the one before. The 12 is 0, the 1 is 5, the 2 is 10.
Which hand shows the minutes
The long hand is the minute hand. The short, thick hand is the hour hand. Both are named on the drawing.
- To check a box, multiply the number on the face by 5: the 7 is 35 minutes.
- Halfway round, at the 6, is 30 minutes: half past the hour.
Questions and answers
How do you label the minutes on a clock?
