Algeria(capital: Algiers)Capital: Algiers. The largest country in Africa. About 2.38 million square kilometers, and part of the Maghreb.
Egypt(capital: Cairo)Capital: Cairo. The country spans two continents. The Sinai Peninsula, its northeast corner, lies in Asia. The second-largest city is Alexandria.
Libya(capital: Tripoli)Capital: Tripoli, in the northwest. The fourth-largest country in Africa, at almost 1.8 million square kilometers.
Morocco(capital: Rabat)Capital: Rabat. A kingdom in the Maghreb, with Algeria, Tunisia and Libya.

How this list was compiled: The 54 countries are the African member states of the United Nations: https://www.un.org/en/about-us/member-states, checked 2026-09-19. The five regions and which country sits in which: United Nations Statistics Division, Standard country or area codes for statistical use (M49), https://unstats.un.org/unsd/methodology/m49/, checked 2026-09-19. Two shapes of the drawing that the points file flags as disputed are not on this list and are never asked. Positions in the hints were read off the drawing; the two "largest shape" hints were checked against the areas of the drawn shapes. The second and later sentences of each detail line were read on 2026-09-19 in the lead of that country's article at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ followed by the country's name as the quiz labels it (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_(country) and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Ireland for those two); no detail line names a flagged shape or describes a border that is contested. How it works
Six countries fill this Northern Africa map quiz: Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Sudan and Tunisia, on a map zoomed to the top of the continent. Find it names one to tap. Name it lights one up, then asks its capital.

Which six countries are asked
The quiz follows the United Nations list of Northern Africa and asks the six member states on it. Every one is big enough to tap, so this page has no numbered rings. Countries farther south, such as Mali, Niger and Chad, are drawn for context and never asked.
Twelve answers from six countries
Open Study first and step through the six with their capitals. Play Find it until you score six of six. Then move to Name it, which asks the country and then its capital, and counts a question only when both are right. Small spelling slips are forgiven.
West to east along the Mediterranean: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt. Sudan, south of Egypt, faces the Red Sea instead.
Algeria is Africa's largest country. Tunisia, wedged between Algeria and Libya, is the smallest of the six.
Morocco faces Spain across the Strait of Gibraltar, about 14 kilometers at its narrowest. Egypt's Sinai Peninsula reaches into Asia.
Questions and answers
Why is Sudan on a Northern Africa quiz?
The United Nations statistics office files Sudan under Northern Africa, and this page follows that list. The African Union's northern region leaves Sudan out and counts Mauritania instead. If your class list has five names, Sudan is probably the one it leaves out.
What are the capitals of the six countries?
Rabat for Morocco, Algiers for Algeria, Tunis for Tunisia, Tripoli for Libya, Cairo for Egypt and Khartoum for Sudan. Khartoum stands where the Blue Nile and the White Nile meet. Name it asks each one right after its country.
Is there a bigger Africa map quiz after this one?
Yes. The Africa countries map quiz uses the same drawing with all 54 countries switched on, and the sub-Saharan Africa quiz asks the 48 that this page leaves out. Six plus 48 makes the 54.
