Parts of a swing
A single swing is two hangers on the top bar, a chain from each, and a seat joined to the chains by S-hooks. The seat may be a curved strap or a toddler's bucket seat with leg holes.
Why the tire swing is different
The tire swing hangs from one pivot by three chains, so it can swing in any direction, not just back and forth.
Questions and answers
What are the parts of a swing set called?
The top bar, the legs of the A-frame at each end and the ground anchors under the feet make the frame. Each swing has hangers, chains, S-hooks and a seat, and protective surfacing covers the ground beneath.
What holds a swing to the top bar?
A hanger clamps round the top bar, and the chain hangs from it and pivots as the swing moves. A tire swing hangs from a single pivot instead of two hangers.
What is a bucket swing?
A seat for a toddler, shaped like a bucket with two holes for the legs, so a small child sits upright and cannot slip out of the sides.
What is the top bar of a swing set called?
The top bar, also called the crossbar or top beam. Every hanger clamps to it, and the A-frame legs hold it up at each end.
