Word bank for the thirteen rooms
No word list prints on the sheet. In alphabetical order: attic, basement, bathroom, bedroom, closet, dining room, garage, hallway, kitchen, landing, laundry room, living room, stairs.
Rooms that get swapped
Numbers 4 and 5 share one space on the ground floor. The 4 above the front door is the hallway; the 5 beside the steps is the stairs. The landing (6) is upstairs, where the stairs end. Attic and basement are the two ends of the house: 10 is the triangle under the roof, 11 is below the ground. Clothes hang in the closet (8), beside the bedroom. The laundry room (12) has the two machines.
- Closet is mainly an American word. Hall, for hallway, is mainly British; American English usually says entryway.
- Each room holds a clue for a first lesson: boxes, a bed, a bathtub, a sofa, a table with two chairs, a car.
- For a more detailed drawing to label, the interior parts of a house page adds one wall and its trim: baseboard, casing, crown molding.
Questions and answers

Yes. The key prints the house with its numbers and the thirteen names in order, from living room to garage. Four carry a second name in brackets: hall, staircase, loft and cellar.
