How this list was compiled: Items made on 2026-10-01; ids, points and accepted spellings are Natural Earth's. Nine places: Libya, its six neighbors in order round the border from the east (Egypt, Sudan, Chad, Niger, Algeria, Tunisia), the Mediterranean Sea and the Gulf of Sidra. The seven country names were compared on 2026-10-01 with the list of member states of the United Nations (https://www.un.org/en/about-us/member-states) and the six neighbors and their sides with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libya (lead). The Gulf of Sidra, also called the Gulf of Sirte, a part of the Mediterranean Sea on the coast of Libya: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_of_Sidra (lead) and the Marine Regions gazetteer of the Flanders Marine Institute (https://www.marineregions.org, records for the Mediterranean Sea and for the Gulf of Sidra), read the same day. No districts are drawn: the first-level units in Natural Earth are the 22 districts of 2007, and the reference lists read on 2026-10-01 disagree on whether they are current. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Districts_of_Libya says that there were 22 before 2013 and that the country is now divided into municipalities; the list of ISO 3166-2 codes for Libya as Wikipedia prints it (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-2:LY) and the boundary table of the United Nations humanitarian office (https://data.humdata.org/dataset/cod-ab-lby, reviewed 19 December 2024) still list the 22. So the drawing has no line inside the country. No disputed area lies in the frame of the drawing as the generator probes it. What is on the map

Libya is the large shape in the middle. Going round from the east it borders Egypt, Sudan, Chad, Niger, Algeria and Tunisia, each cut off by the edge of the sheet. No town is marked: Tripoli, the capital, is on the northwest coast, for students to add.

  • The Gulf of Sidra is also called the Gulf of Sirte; the quiz takes either name.

Questions and answers

Which countries border Libya?

Six: Egypt (east), Sudan (southeast), Chad (south), Niger (southwest), Algeria (west) and Tunisia (northwest). The Mediterranean Sea is to the north.

What is the capital of Libya?

Tripoli, on the coast in the northwest of the country. It is not marked on the map, so students can add it themselves.

Does the map show the districts of Libya?

No. Libya set up 22 districts in 2007, and it is also divided into smaller municipalities. Reference lists disagree on which units are current, so no line is drawn inside the country.

Where is the Gulf of Sidra?

It is the wide bay in the middle of Libya's coast, a part of the Mediterranean Sea. It is also called the Gulf of Sirte.
