How this list was compiled: Items made on 2026-10-01; ids, points and accepted spellings are Natural Earth's. THE DRAWING IS DATED: it has the 22 regions Madagascar had from 2004 to 2021, not today's 24. The page numbers and asks only the 20 regions that have not changed; the two shapes of the former Vatovavy-Fitovinany region (split in 2021 into Vatovavy and Fitovinany) and of Analanjirofo as it was before Ambatosoa was made from its northern part (law of 2023) are in this file for the drawing and are never asked. Today's 24 regions and every one of the 20 names were compared on 2026-10-01 with the table of first-level units of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Madagascar - Subnational Administrative Boundaries, 24 regions, reviewed 6 July 2026: https://data.humdata.org/dataset/cod-ab-mdg, its names table mdg_admin_boundaries.xlsx) and with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regions_of_Madagascar (24 regions, with the two changes and the capital of each region), both read 2026-10-01. The two texts differ on one name: the United Nations table and the drawing say Haute Matsiatra, Wikipedia says Matsiatra Ambony; the label is Haute Matsiatra and both are accepted. ISO 3166-2 has codes for the six former provinces only, so the ids are made from the names. No other land is drawn: Mayotte and the small French islands near Madagascar, whose ownership is disputed, are not on the drawing. The point of Analamanga was moved inside its own shape, so that its name stands clear of its neighbors' when the sheet writes them; the points file has the generator's point. How it works
This blank map of Madagascar opens on the plain outline of the island. Switch Borders on for the region borders as they were until 2021; 20 of today's 24 regions are unchanged and can be numbered.

Outline first
The sheet opens with nothing inside the outline. Press Print this map for a sheet to draw rivers, towns or regions on. Borders adds the region lines.
Why 20 regions have numbers
The borders are those of the 22 regions Madagascar had until 2021. Twenty are unchanged today, and Numbered and Named label those 20. Two areas on the east coast stay unlabeled: each has since been divided into two regions, and the new lines are not on the map.
To finish the map by hand, students can draw one of the two missing lines: Ambatosoa is the northern part of the old Analanjirofo.
Questions and answers
How many regions does Madagascar have?
Twenty-four. There were 22 until 2021, when Vatovavy-Fitovinany was split into Vatovavy and Fitovinany. Ambatosoa was later made out of Analanjirofo's northern part. The other 20 kept their borders.
What is the capital of Madagascar?
Antananarivo, in the Analamanga region in the middle of the island. The region has a number on the Numbered sheet; the city itself is not marked.
What is around Madagascar on the map?
Nothing: the island is drawn alone, with no other land on the sheet. Madagascar is an island country in the Indian Ocean, and the coast of Africa lies across the Mozambique Channel.
Can I print Madagascar without the region lines?
Yes. That is how the sheet opens: Borders stays off until you switch it on, so the first print is the outline alone.
