How this list was compiled: Items made on 2026-10-01. The map source has the province as one unit; the spec cuts it at the Strait of Belle Isle into its two parts, the island of Newfoundland and Labrador, without drawing any line by hand. The sheet numbers the two parts, Quebec, four seas, a reservoir, two rivers and four places. Every name was read on 2026-10-01 in the Canadian Geographical Names Database of Natural Resources Canada (https://geogratis.gc.ca/services/geoname/en/geonames: Newfoundland and Labrador as the official name of the province, Island of Newfoundland, Labrador; St. John's and Corner Brook as cities, Labrador City and Happy Valley - Goose Bay as towns; Smallwood Reservoir, Churchill River, Exploits River, Labrador Sea, Strait of Belle Isle, Gulf of St. Lawrence, Atlantic Ocean) and in https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/newfoundland-and-labrador (the island and Labrador on the mainland; St. John's as capital and largest city, then Corner Brook; Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Labrador City in the interior of Labrador; the Smallwood Reservoir) with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newfoundland_and_Labrador (the Strait of Belle Isle between the two parts; the land border with Quebec and the short one with Nunavut on Killiniq Island), https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Churchill_River_(Atlantic), https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exploits_River, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smallwood_Reservoir, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labrador_Sea and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_of_St._Lawrence. The town's label is the spelling of the province and of both encyclopedias, Happy Valley-Goose Bay; the names database and the map source space the hyphen, and that form is accepted. The line between Labrador and Quebec is the source's, the boundary set in 1927 (https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/labrador-boundary-dispute). Statistics Canada counts 10 provinces and 3 territories (https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/92-195-x/2021001/geo/prov/prov-eng.htm). So that every name has room on the Named sheet, three points stand elsewhere inside their shape or on their line than in the points file (Newfoundland, Labrador, Churchill River), and the town is written H.V.-Goose Bay there (short); the key and the quiz keep the full name. The ring the generator sets beside the dot of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is left out, so the number stands on the dot. What the map draws
The Strait of Belle Isle lies between the island of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Labrador Sea is off the coast of Labrador, the Gulf of St. Lawrence is west of the island and the Atlantic Ocean is to the southeast. The dots are St. John's, Corner Brook, Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Labrador City. The rivers are the Churchill in Labrador and the Exploits on the island.
On the Named sheet Happy Valley-Goose Bay is shortened to H.V.-Goose Bay. The answer key has the full name.
Questions and answers
What is the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador?
St. John's, which is also the largest city. On this map it is the dot on the east coast of the island of Newfoundland.
What is the difference between Newfoundland and Labrador?
They are the two parts of one province. Newfoundland is the island, and Labrador is the larger part, on the mainland next to Quebec. The Strait of Belle Isle lies between them.
What borders Newfoundland and Labrador?
Labrador has a land border with Quebec, and a short one with Nunavut on Killiniq Island at its northern tip, which is too small to number here. The island of Newfoundland has no land border.
Where is the line between Labrador and Quebec on this map?
Where the public-domain map source draws it: along the boundary that a ruling of 1927 set between Labrador and Quebec.
Which rivers are on the map?
Two. The Churchill River flows east across Labrador from the Smallwood Reservoir toward the Atlantic. The Exploits River is the longest river on the island of Newfoundland.
