How this list was compiled: Items made on 2026-10-01. The map source has no unit below the state, so the sheet numbers the state, its neighbors where it has them, and the land areas, waters and places listed here. Every name was read on 2026-10-01 in the Composite Gazetteer of Australia (https://placenames.fsdf.org.au/, the official names of the state and territory naming authorities, read through its search service), authority TAS (Hobart, Launceston, Devonport, Queenstown and Smithton as localities or town sites; King Island and Flinders Island as islands; Bass Strait; Tasman Sea; River Derwent; Lake Gordon), and in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasmania (the five towns, Hobart as capital, the two islands, Bass Strait, the Tasman Sea) with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Derwent_(Tasmania) (the river rises in the Central Highlands and flows through Hobart). Geoscience Australia's landform and dimension tables (https://www.ga.gov.au/scientific-topics/national-location-information/landforms/islands, .../landforms/deserts, .../landforms/largest-waterbodies, .../landforms/longest-rivers, .../dimensions/area-of-australia-states-and-territories) list Flinders and King among the largest islands, Lake Gordon as the largest lake of Tasmania, Tasmania as the state with the smallest area and Macquarie Island as part of Tasmania 1,500 kilometers to the southeast. The river's official name is River Derwent; Derwent River is accepted. The map source's line named Tamar is left off the drawing because it runs far up the South Esk and Macquarie rivers. Blank, numbered or named

What the map draws

King Island lies off the northwest corner and Flinders Island off the northeast. Lake Gordon is in the southwest. The River Derwent runs southeast to Hobart. The faint lines across the water are where the map source ends Bass Strait and the Tasman Sea. The River Tamar is not drawn: the map source runs that line far up two other rivers.
