How this list was compiled: Items made on 2026-10-01. The map source has no unit below the state, so the sheet numbers the state, its neighbors where it has them, and the land areas, waters and places listed here. Every name was read on 2026-10-01 in the Composite Gazetteer of Australia (https://placenames.fsdf.org.au/, the official names of the state and territory naming authorities, read through its search service), authority WA (Perth, Broome, Port Hedland, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Bunbury, Albany and Esperance as town sites; Hamersley Range; Great Sandy Desert; Gibson Desert; Indian Ocean; Timor Sea; Shark Bay; Great Australian Bight; Fitzroy River; Lake Argyle), and in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Australia (Perth as capital, the towns, the Hamersley Range, the deserts, the Indian Ocean, the two neighbors) with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shark_Bay (on the westernmost point of the continent), https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Australian_Bight and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kimberley_(Western_Australia) (the Timor Sea to the north, the Fitzroy and Ord rivers, Lake Argyle). Geoscience Australia's landform and dimension tables (https://www.ga.gov.au/scientific-topics/national-location-information/landforms/islands, .../landforms/deserts, .../landforms/largest-waterbodies, .../landforms/longest-rivers, .../dimensions/area-of-australia-states-and-territories) give the Great Sandy and Gibson deserts to Western Australia and the Great Victoria Desert to Western Australia and South Australia, name Lake Argyle on the Ord River and give Western Australia 32.9 percent of the country's area. The map source's Kimberley Plateau is left off the drawing: that name was found in neither text. Its line named Swan is left off because it runs far up the Avon River. The Great Victoria Desert and the Nullarbor Plain, which cross the state border, are not drawn. What the map draws
The Northern Territory and South Australia are to the east. The Great Sandy and Gibson deserts are in the interior, the Hamersley Range in the northwest. Desert and range areas have faint edges: rough areas, not exact limits. The faint lines over the water are where the map source ends a sea or a bay. The Swan River is not drawn: the map source runs that line far up another river.
