Der, die and das
Der, masculine: der Schreibtisch, der Stuhl, der Papierkorb, der Bleistift, der Radiergummi and der Rucksack. Die, feminine: die Tafel, die Uhr, die Tür and die Schere. Das, neuter: das Fenster, das Bücherregal, das Buch and das Lineal.
Every plural takes die
In the plural all three genders take die, and many nouns change a vowel: der Stuhl becomes die Stühle, das Buch die Bücher, der Rucksack die Rucksäcke. Das Fenster keeps its form: die Fenster.
Capital letters
German writes every noun with a capital letter, in the middle of a sentence too. A typed answer counts in small letters.
