Lily word bank
In alphabetical order, to copy onto the board: bulb, leaves, pistil, roots, scales, stamens, stem, tepals.
Stamens or pistil, bulb or scales
In the flower, the stamens (2) are the six thin stalks with a pollen sac on each end, and the pistil (3) is the single part in the very middle. The tepals (1) are the six large pointed parts around them. Under the soil, the bulb (6) is the whole swollen base, and the scales (7) are the fleshy pieces it is made of.
- When marking, petals is right on line 1: a lily's petals and sepals look alike, so the six together are called tepals.
- The bud beside the open flower is drawn, but has no number.
