From the top down
The crown is the whole leafy top. The branches grow out of the trunk and split into twigs, and the twigs hold the leaves. The trunk holds the tree up, and bark covers it. Under the ground, the roots spread out.
What each part does
Leaves use sunlight to make the tree's food. The trunk carries materials up and down, and bark protects it. Roots hold the tree in place and take in water from the soil.
- Study shows every label at once, so a younger child can look first and then try the quiz.
Questions and answers
What are the main parts of a tree?
The roots, the trunk with its bark, the branches and twigs, and the leaves. The branches and leaves together make the crown.
What does bark do for a tree?
Bark is the outer layer of the trunk and branches. It protects the tree like a shield against damage.
What do tree roots do?
They spread out under the ground, hold the tree in place, and take in water and nutrients from the soil.
