How this list was compiled: Items made on 2026-10-01; ids, points and accepted spellings are Natural Earth's. The page asks Bulgaria, the Danube and Sofia; the five neighbors are in the list so that the page can draw them as land that is not asked. The six country names were compared on 2026-10-01 with the United Nations list of member states (https://www.un.org/en/about-us/member-states; it prints Türkiye, which is accepted) and with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulgaria, which names the five neighbors, the Danube, the Black Sea and Sofia. Sofia as the capital also on the European Union's page for the country (https://european-union.europa.eu/principles-countries-history/eu-countries/bulgaria_en) and at Bulgaria's National Statistical Institute (https://www.nsi.bg, 'Sofia (Stolitsa)'); the Danube and the states on it also at the Danube Commission (https://www.danubecommission.org); the Black Sea, with Bulgaria among the countries on it, also at the European Commission (https://oceans-and-fisheries.ec.europa.eu/ocean/sea-basins/black-sea_en). The sea is named in the page's text and is not asked. The first-level units of the source were not used: on 2026-10-01 the admin-1 shapes of Natural Earth 5.1.2 were measured against the province areas published today and several do not match, so no line is drawn inside the country. Blank, numbered or named

The sheet opens blank. Choose Numbered to put a number on Bulgaria, the Danube and Sofia, or Named for their names, then press Print this map. Print the answer key gives the names on a sheet of its own.

What the map draws

Romania is to the north, across the Danube. Serbia and North Macedonia are to the west, Greece and Turkey to the south, and the open water to the east is the Black Sea. The neighbors are drawn lightly and carry no numbers. Bulgaria has 28 provinces, but the public-domain map source's province lines do not match today's, so the inside of the country is left empty.

  • The dot is Sofia. On the Numbered sheet it carries a number of its own, apart from the number of Bulgaria.

Questions and answers

Which countries border Bulgaria?

Five: Romania (north), Serbia and North Macedonia (west), Greece and Turkey (south). The Black Sea is to the east. On this map the five are drawn lightly, without numbers.

What is the capital of Bulgaria?

Sofia, in the west of the country. On this map it is the dot inside Bulgaria.

What river is on the blank map of Bulgaria?

The Danube. It runs along most of the northern border of Bulgaria, with Romania on the far bank.

Does this map show the provinces of Bulgaria?

No. The map source's province lines do not match today's 28 provinces, so the sheet shows Bulgaria as one outline to write and draw on.
