How this list was compiled: Items made on 2026-10-01; ids, points and accepted spellings are Natural Earth's. The page asks Cambodia, the Tonlé Sap, the Mekong and Phnom Penh; the three neighbors are in the list so that the page can draw them as land that is not asked. Phnom Penh carries its number on its dot: the ring the points file gives it is left out, because a blank sheet would print the ring's leader line. The four country names were compared on 2026-10-01 with the United Nations list of member states (https://www.un.org/en/about-us/member-states; it prints Lao People's Democratic Republic and Viet Nam, which are accepted) and with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cambodia, which names the three neighbors, the Gulf of Thailand, the Mekong, the Tonlé Sap and Phnom Penh. The Tonle Sap, the Mekong, Phnom Penh, the three neighbors and the Gulf of Thailand are also printed on the United Nations map of Cambodia (Map No. 3860 Rev. 4, https://www.un.org/geospatial/content/cambodia); the Mekong, the Tonle Sap and Phnom Penh also at the Mekong River Commission (https://www.mrcmekong.org/mekong-basin/geography/); Phnom Penh also in ISO 3166-2:KH as Wikipedia prints it. The gulf is named in the page's text and is not asked. The first-level units of the source were not used: Natural Earth 5.1.2 has 24 units where Cambodia has 25 today, and on 2026-10-01 several of its shapes did not match the province areas published today, so no line is drawn inside the country. What the map draws

Thailand is northwest, Laos north and Vietnam east. The open water in the southwest is the Gulf of Thailand. The neighbors are drawn lightly and carry no numbers. Cambodia has 24 provinces and the capital, Phnom Penh, but the public-domain map source has older province lines, without the newest province, so the inside of the country is left to the lake and the river.

  • The dot is Phnom Penh. It sits where the Mekong, coming down from Laos, turns toward Vietnam.
