More than one island
The island group is wider than the island. It takes in Batanes to the north and Mindoro, Palawan, Marinduque, Romblon, Masbate and Catanduanes to the south and east. Nine small shapes carry rings, among them Metro Manila, Cavite and Rizal, so each has a line to write beside.
Thirty-nine numbers fill a sheet. For a first test, ask only the provinces north of Manila.

How many provinces are in Luzon?
Thirty-eight in the Luzon island group, plus Metro Manila, which is a region and not a province. Thirty of them are on the island of Luzon itself and the rest on the islands around it.
Are Palawan, Masbate and Romblon part of Luzon?
On this map, yes: all three are counted in the Luzon island group. They are sometimes grouped with the Visayas, so check your textbook.
Which is the largest province on the map?
Palawan, the long island in the southwest. On the island of Luzon itself Isabela is the largest, followed by Cagayan and Quezon.
