How this list was compiled: Items made on 2026-10-01; ids and points are Natural Earth's. THE DRAWING IS DATED IN THE NORTHEAST: Natural Earth has the 13 regions of before 2013 and Namibia has 14 today. The page numbers and asks the eleven regions that are regions of today (Erongo, Hardap, ǁKharas, Khomas, Kunene, Ohangwena, Omaheke, Omusati, Oshana, Oshikoto, Otjozondjupa). The twelfth shape is the northeast drawn as one area: it holds Kavango West, Kavango East and Zambezi, is in this file for the drawing and is never asked; the source's line between its Kavango and Caprivi shapes, at 21 degrees east, is left out because it is not a region border of today: Proclamation No. 25 of 2013 puts the border between Kavango East and Zambezi at 22 degrees 31 minutes east (Government Gazette of the Republic of Namibia No. 5261, 9 August 2013, http://www.lac.org.na/laws/2013/5261.pdf, read 2026-10-01; the same proclamation divides Kavango into Kavango East and Kavango West, renames Caprivi as Zambezi and adds Region No. 14), and the areas of the source's two shapes disagree with the 2023 census table (figures in the spec's notes). Count and every name read on 2026-10-01 in two places: ISO 3166-2:NA as printed at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-2:NA (14 regions; the change of 2014-11-03 deleted Kavango and added Kavango East and Kavango West) and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regions_of_Namibia (14 regions since 2013, with the area table of the 2023 Population and Housing Census; Khomas home to the capital, Windhoek); the split of Kavango in 2013 and the west of the strip in Kavango East also at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kavango_East. The southern region is named ǁKharas, with an h: Proclamation No. 34 of 2015 replaced the word "!Karas" by "//Kharas" (Government Gazette of the Republic of Namibia No. 5853, 15 October 2015, http://www.lac.org.na/laws/2015/5853.pdf, read 2026-10-01), and the English Wikipedia's article is titled ǁKharas Region (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C7%81Kharas_Region, read 2026-10-01: "formerly Karas Region", renamed in October 2015); ISO 3166-2:NA and the table at Regions_of_Namibia still print the 2013 spelling, which is accepted as a typed answer with Kharas and Karas. How it works

This blank map of Namibia opens on the plain outline of the country. One switch adds region borders from a map source older than 2013: eleven of today’s 14 regions are drawn, and the northeast is one unnumbered area.

Outline first

The sheet opens with nothing inside the outline. Press Print this map for a sheet to draw deserts, rivers, towns or the 14 regions on. Borders adds the region lines.

Why eleven regions have numbers

Numbered and Named label eleven of the 14 regions. The northeast is drawn as one area with no number. It holds three regions, Kavango West, Kavango East and Zambezi, and the map source has no true lines between them.

  • To finish the map by hand, students draw two lines across the northeast: Kavango West, Kavango East, then Zambezi at the end of the strip.

Questions and answers

How many regions does Namibia have?

Fourteen, since 2013, when the Kavango Region was divided into Kavango East and Kavango West. This map numbers eleven of them and draws the northeast as one area.

Why does the northeast have no number?

Three regions share it: Kavango West, Kavango East and Zambezi. The map source draws that area as it was before 2013, so its lines there are not today’s, and the sheet leaves them out.

What is the capital of Namibia?

Windhoek, in the Khomas Region. Switch Borders on and choose Named to find Khomas on the map.

Which countries border Namibia?

Angola and Zambia (north), Botswana (east) and South Africa (south and east). The Atlantic Ocean is to the west.
