Blank, numbered or named
The sheet opens blank. Choose Numbered to put a number on each of the eight shapes, or Named for their names, then press Print this map. The answer key prints on a sheet of its own.
Regions named after their capitals
Each region of Niger carries the name of its capital city, so a student who labels Zinder or Maradi has named the main town too. Niamey, the national capital, is a small district of its own inside Tillabéri in the southwest; a short line leads from it to its number.
- Agadez, the largest region, covers the north. Start students there, then work along the south from Tillabéri to Diffa.
Questions and answers
How many regions does Niger have?
Seven: Agadez, Diffa, Dosso, Maradi, Tahoua, Tillabéri and Zinder. Niamey, the capital, is a district of its own on the same level, so the map numbers eight shapes.
Is Niger the same country as Nigeria?
No. They are two countries that share a border. Niger is the landlocked one to the north, and this map shows its regions. Nigeria lies to the south and has its own sheet, the blank map of Nigeria, with its 36 states.
Which countries border Niger?
Seven: Algeria to the northwest, Libya to the northeast, Chad to the east, Nigeria to the south, Benin and Burkina Faso to the southwest and Mali to the west. They are drawn as plain land around the outline, without names.
Where is Niamey on the map?
In the southwest corner of the country, on the Niger River. Its district is the smallest shape on the map and lies inside the Tillabéri Region. The river itself is not drawn.
