How this list was compiled: Items made on 2026-10-01. THE DRAWING IS DATED: it has the nine provinces and three indigenous regions Panama had until 2013, not today's ten provinces and four provincial-level indigenous regions. The page numbers and asks only the ten units whose borders are unchanged (Chiriquí, Coclé, Colón, Darién, Herrera, Los Santos and Veraguas; Emberá-Wounaan, Guna Yala and Ngäbe-Buglé); the two shapes of Panamá Province as it was before Panamá Oeste was made (1 January 2014) and of Bocas del Toro as it was before Naso Tjër Di was made (4 December 2020) are in this file for the drawing and are never asked. Today's list of 14 and the ten names were read on 2026-10-01 in the ISO 3166-2:PA list as printed at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-2:PA and at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provinces_of_Panama; the ten provinces and the three older indigenous regions also stand in the map menu of Panama's national statistics institute, https://www.inec.gob.pa/ (read the same day; it does not list Naso Tjër Di). The two dates: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panam%C3%A1_Oeste_Province and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naso_Tj%C3%ABr_Di_Comarca. The boundary file labels Bocas del Toro with the name of the neighboring region; the spec sets five labels to today's usual names and accepts the older spellings. The point of Los Santos is moved inside its shape so that its name clears Herrera, and the Named sheet writes Emberá-Wounaan with the short name the ISO list uses, Emberá. How it works
This blank map of Panama opens on the plain outline, with Costa Rica and Colombia as plain land at its two ends. Switch Borders on for the lines of the provinces and indigenous regions as they were before 2014.

Outline first
The sheet opens with nothing inside the outline. Press Print this map for a sheet to draw the canal, cities or provinces on. Borders adds the lines of provinces and indigenous regions.
Why ten areas have numbers
The lines are older than two changes: Panamá Oeste became a province in 2014 and Naso Tjër Di an indigenous region in 2020. Neither new line is drawn. Numbered and Named label the ten areas that are unchanged, seven provinces and three indigenous regions. The old Panamá and Bocas del Toro areas stay unlabeled.
To finish the map by hand, students draw the missing line: Panamá Oeste is the part of the old Panamá area west of the canal.
Questions and answers
How many provinces does Panama have?
Ten provinces and four indigenous regions on the same level. Panamá Oeste, the newest province, was made in 2014 from the part of Panamá Province west of the canal. Naso Tjër Di, the newest indigenous region, dates from 2020.
Is the Panama Canal on the map?
No. The map has the outline of the country and, with Borders on, the lines of provinces and indigenous regions. The canal is not drawn, so students can draw it in themselves.
What are the indigenous regions of Panama?
Panama calls them comarcas indígenas. Four rank with the provinces: Emberá-Wounaan, Guna Yala, Naso Tjër Di and Ngäbe-Buglé. The map numbers the three older ones; Emberá-Wounaan is in two pieces inside Darién.
What is around Panama on the map?
Costa Rica to the west and Colombia to the southeast, drawn as plain land without names. The Caribbean Sea lies to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south. The capital, Panama City, is not marked.
