Blank, numbered or named
The sheet opens blank. Choose Numbered to put a number on each of the five shapes, or Named for their names, then press Print this map. The answer key prints on a sheet of its own.
Four provinces and a city
The provinces are named for the compass: the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Province, in place since 2006. Kigali, the capital, is a city with the rank of a province. It is the small shape near the middle of the map.
- With only five names to write, there is room to add the four neighboring countries around the outline by hand.
Questions and answers
How many provinces does Rwanda have?
Four: the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Province. The City of Kigali has the same rank, so the map numbers five shapes. Before 2006 the country had 12 provinces.
Where is Kigali on the map?
Near the middle of the country. Kigali is the capital and largest city, and its shape is the smallest of the five, between the Northern, Eastern and Southern Province.
Is Lake Kivu on the map?
Yes. The lake lies on the border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is drawn as open water beside the Western Province, with the border running through it, and has no name or number.
Which countries border Rwanda?
Four: the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, Burundi to the south, Tanzania to the east and Uganda to the north. Rwanda has no coast. The neighbors are drawn as plain land, without names.
