How this list was compiled: Items made on 2026-10-01; names, ids, points and accepted spellings are Natural Earth's. The 14 regions are today's first-level units. The count and every name were compared on 2026-10-01 with the regions menu of Senegal's statistics agency (Agence nationale de la statistique et de la démographie, https://www.ansd.sn/, 14 regions), with the list of ISO 3166-2 codes for Senegal as Wikipedia prints it (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-2:SN, 14 codes), with Wikipedia's list of the regions (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regions_of_Senegal) and with Statoids (http://www.statoids.com/usn.html); all four have the same 14. No capital points: every region is named after its capital, and Natural Earth's places layer lacks four of the 14 towns and marks a Mauritanian town for Matam. The Gambia and the other neighbors are untappable land. The Senegal River is not drawn; it runs along the northern border. One line is known to be wrong: Natural Earth draws the west end of Kédougou about 30 km too far west, so on this sheet Kédougou touches Kolda, where a strip of Tambacounda in fact runs south between the two to the border with Guinea. Read 2026-10-01: Wikipedia's article on the Kolda region, which gives Sédhiou and Tambacounda as its neighbor regions (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kolda_region), and the regions file of the Government of Senegal and OCHA for 2019 as geoBoundaries publishes it (https://www.geoboundaries.org/), which files that block under Tambacounda. How it works

This blank map of Senegal shows the country’s 14 regions wrapped around the narrow strip of The Gambia. Switch Borders off and it prints as a plain outline of Senegal.

Blank, numbered or named

The sheet opens blank. Choose Numbered to put a number on each region, or Named for the names, then press Print this map. Print the answer key gives the names on a sheet of its own.

The gap in the map

The long gap near the bottom is The Gambia, a separate country that Senegal nearly surrounds. It is drawn as plain land, like Mauritania, Mali, Guinea and Guinea-Bissau. Three regions lie south of it: Ziguinchor, Sédhiou and Kolda.

  • Every region is named after its capital town, so a student who knows the fourteen regions knows the regional capitals too.

Questions and answers

How many regions does Senegal have?

Fourteen. Each is named after its capital, from Dakar, Thiès and Saint-Louis on the coast to Tambacounda and Kédougou in the east. All fourteen are numbered on this map.

What is the largest region of Senegal?

Tambacounda, in the east. Dakar, on the peninsula at the western tip, is the smallest region and holds the capital city.

Which countries border Senegal?

Mauritania to the north, Mali to the east, Guinea to the southeast and Guinea-Bissau to the southwest. The Gambia lies inside Senegal along the Gambia River, and the Atlantic Ocean is to the west.

Can I print Senegal without the region lines?

Yes. Switch Borders off and the sheet prints the outline of Senegal alone, with The Gambia still cut out of it.

Do Kolda and Kédougou share a border?

No, although this sheet draws them touching. A strip of Tambacounda runs between them, south to the border with Guinea. The map source draws that one line too far west.
