How this list was compiled: Items made on 2026-10-01; names, ids, points, capital points and accepted spellings are Natural Earth's. The eight regions (kraje) are today's first-level units. The count and every name were compared on 2026-10-01 with the list of ISO 3166-2 codes for Slovakia as Wikipedia prints it (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-2:SK, eight codes), with Wikipedia's list of the regions and their capitals (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regions_of_Slovakia) with Statoids (http://www.statoids.com/usk.html, eight regions) and with the regions list of the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic (https://data.statistics.sk/api/v2/dimension/cr3801mr/nuts13?lang=en, eight regions); the four have the same eight. Six capital stars are Natural Earth's places. Nitra and Trenčín are not among them: their two stars are this file's, projected from the coordinates Wikipedia gives for the towns (Nitra 48°18′25″N 18°05′11″E, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitra; Trenčín 48°53′31″N 18°02′12″E, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tren%C4%8D%C3%ADn; both read 2026-10-01) with the drawing's own projection, fitted to the six other capital points to within 0.06 units; each lies inside its region's shape. The neighbors are untappable land. The Danube is not drawn; it runs along the border for most of its way. How it works

This blank map of Slovakia shows the country’s eight regions, with its five neighbors drawn as plain land. Switch Borders off and it prints as a plain outline of Slovakia.

Blank, numbered or named

The sheet opens blank. Choose Numbered to put a number on each region, or Named for the names, then press Print this map. Print the answer key gives the names on a sheet of its own.

Borders and capitals

Borders takes the region lines away and leaves the outline of the country. Capitals adds a star at the city each region is named after, from Bratislava at the western tip to Košice in the east.

  • Each region carries the name of its main city, so the map teaches eight regions and eight cities at once.

Questions and answers

How many regions does Slovakia have?

Eight, each named after the city that is its seat: Bratislava, Trnava, Trenčín, Nitra, Žilina, Banská Bystrica, Prešov and Košice. All eight are numbered on this map.

What is the largest region of Slovakia?

Banská Bystrica, in the middle of the south. The Bratislava region, at the western tip, is the smallest.

Which countries border Slovakia?

Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east, Hungary to the south, Austria to the west and the Czech Republic to the northwest. Slovakia is landlocked, so the outline has no coast.

Where is Bratislava on the map?

At the western tip of the country, in the smallest region. Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia; switch Capitals on to see its star.
