How this list was compiled: Items made on 2026-10-01; names, ids, points and accepted spellings are Natural Earth's. The 25 districts are today's second-level units and the nine provinces the level above. The count, every district name and the province of every district were compared on 2026-10-01 with the list of ISO 3166-2 codes for Sri Lanka as Wikipedia prints it (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-2:LK: nine provinces, 25 districts, each district with its parent province) and with the table of districts on Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Districts_of_Sri_Lanka: 25 rows with province, whose areas are cited to the Department of Census and Statistics); the two agree with each other and with the drawing. The department's own table of divisions by district (https://www.statistics.gov.lk/ref/GNbyDistrict, as at 19 March 2024, read 2026-10-01) prints 'Total No of Districts 25' and the same 25 districts; it spells two of them Killinochchi and Moneragala. ISO's spellings Kegalla and Mullaittivu are accepted answers. The capitals named in the page copy are from the lead of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sri_Lanka, read the same day. Districts and provinces
Each district belongs to one of nine provinces: Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara make up Western Province, and Jaffna is one of five districts of Northern Province. Borders takes the district lines away and leaves the outline.
Each district has the same name as its capital town, so the sheet teaches 25 towns as well.
