Blank, numbered or named
The sheet opens blank. Choose Numbered to put a number on each of the 11 provinces and cities, or Named for their names, then press Print this map. Print the answer key gives the names on a sheet of its own.
Two cities the map does not draw
North Korea has nine provinces and four cities on the same level: Pyongyang, Rason, Nampo and Kaesong. The map source draws the first two. Nampo’s land is drawn inside South Pyongan and Kaesong’s inside North Hwanghae, so have students write those two in.
Pyongyang is a small shape of its own between South Pyongan and North Hwanghae. Start students there, then work north to the border with China.
Questions and answers
How many provinces does North Korea have?
Nine: Chagang, Kangwon, North Hamgyong, South Hamgyong, North Hwanghae, South Hwanghae, North Pyongan, South Pyongan and Ryanggang. Four cities are governed on the same level: Pyongyang, Rason, Nampo and Kaesong.
Why are Nampo and Kaesong not on the map?
The map source has no shapes for them, so their land is drawn inside South Pyongan and North Hwanghae. Kaesong has been a special city only since 2019, and many printed maps show it the same way.
Why is South Korea not numbered?
This sheet is a map of North Korea. South Korea is drawn to the south for context, without numbers. The South Korea outline map numbers its provinces and cities.
Can I print North Korea without the province lines?
Not from this page. The province lines are part of the drawing, so every version prints them. Printed blank, it is the outline of the country and its provinces with no names.
