What this map of East Asia physical features asks

Three rounds follow the labels. Rivers and seas: the Yangtze, the Yellow River and the Amur, then the Sea of Japan, the Yellow Sea and the East and South China seas. Plateaus and plains: Tibet, Mongolia, North China, Manchuria, Korea and Honshu. Deserts and ranges: the Gobi, the Taklamakan, the Tian Shan, the Altai and the Kunlun.

What the map leaves out

Taiwan, Hokkaido, the Sichuan Basin and the Pearl River are not shapes of the drawing, so they are not asked. Check your class list.

  • The Taklamakan sits inside the Tarim Basin, with the Tian Shan to its north and the Kunlun Mountains to its south.
  • The Yellow River built the North China Plain; the Yangtze ends at the East China Sea.

Questions and answers

What is on an East Asia physical features map?

Land and water with no borders. Here: the Tibetan and Mongolian plateaus, the Gobi and Taklamakan deserts, the North China and Manchurian plains, three mountain systems, the Korean Peninsula, Honshu, three rivers, four seas and the Pacific Ocean.

Is this also an East Asia physical map quiz?

Yes. Press Quiz me and the names come off the map. Each question names one feature to tap, one round at a time.

Why does the map say Sea of Japan?

The drawing takes its names from Natural Earth, its map data. Japan supports the name Sea of Japan and South Korea supports East Sea. The page takes no side, and East Sea counts as a typed answer.

Can I print a blank physical map of East Asia?

Yes. The blank print numbers every feature and leaves a line for each name, and the labeled print adds the answer key.
