How this list was compiled: Where each note sits on the treble staff: Robert Hutchinson, Music Theory for the 21st-Century Classroom, sections 1.2 Notation and 1.3 Octave Registers, https://musictheory.pugetsound.edu/mt21c/Notation.html and OctaveRegisters.html, read 2026-10-01 (the lines are E, G, B, D, F and the spaces F, A, C, E from lowest to highest; ledger lines extend the staff; middle C is on the ledger line below the treble staff); checked against Karl W. Gehrkens, Music Notation and Terminology (1914, public domain), sections 13 to 17, Project Gutenberg ebook 19499, read 2026-10-01 (the G clef makes the second line G, the first line E and the first space F); and Wikipedia, Clef (the G-clef on the second line fixes the G above middle C), read 2026-10-01. Every other note follows by counting the letters A to G up or down from the G line, one for each line or space. Licence: own work

How it works
These treble clef practice worksheets fit one landscape page: forty notes in four parts. Lines and spaces mixed, the lines and the spaces in order, ledger lines, and three words to spell. Print the page, or quiz yourself on it.

How to name a note on the treble staff
Start from the clef: it curls around the second line, and that line is G. Count the letters A to G up or down from there, one for every line or space. The five lines read E, G, B, D, F from the bottom and the four spaces spell F, A, C, E. Middle C sits on a short ledger line below the staff.
Print it blank, numbered or as a key
Press Print this worksheet. Blank leaves room to write each letter under its note. Numbered puts a number under every note and adds a numbered line for each answer. Named is the answer key. For a treble clef worksheet pdf, choose Save as PDF in the print box.
Lines, from the bottom: Every Good Boy Does Fine. Spaces: FACE.
A violin reads only this clef, so the same sheets work as violin note practice.
On a ledger line, find the nearest staff line you know and count one letter for each step.
Questions and answers
What are the treble clef note names?
From the bottom up, the five lines are E, G, B, D and F, and the four spaces are F, A, C and E. Just below the staff come D and then middle C; just above it come G and then A.
How do you work out a note you do not know?
Find G on the second line, where the clef curls. Each line or space above it is the next letter, and after G the letters start again at A. Each step down goes back one letter.
Does the treble clef notes worksheet come with answers?
Yes. Press Print the answer key, or pick Named before you print: the same staves come out with every letter written under its note. The blank and numbered sheets carry no answers.
Can I use it as a treble clef quiz?
Yes. Press Quiz yourself on this worksheet. One note lights and you pick its letter from four choices, one part of the sheet at a time. For a test on paper, print the Numbered sheet.
