How this list was compiled: Items made on 2026-10-01; ids, points and accepted spellings are Natural Earth's. The six district names were compared on 2026-10-01 with ISO 3166-2:BZ as Wikipedia prints it (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-2:BZ, six codes) and with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Districts_of_Belize; both give the same six. The six shapes were also measured against the areas in that article's table: five agree within 7 percent, and Belize District is drawn about a sixth smaller than its published area. The items are numbered from north to south. Guatemala has a claim on Belizean territory that is before the International Court of Justice (https://www.icj-cij.org/case/177, read 2026-10-01); the border is drawn as the source draws it and no border is asked. Read again on 2026-10-03: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Districts_of_Belize, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belmopan and the Court's page of the case (https://www.icj-cij.org/case/177, which lists no judgment on that day). The outline of the drawing was laid over that Natural Earth file on 2026-10-03: the two cover the same area. Read the full guide
The six districts
Corozal and Orange Walk are in the north, Belize District is on the coast in the middle and Cayo, the largest, is in the west. Stann Creek and Toledo are in the south.
Which districts touch a border
Mexico lies across the north, beyond Corozal and Orange Walk. Guatemala runs down the whole west side, beside Orange Walk, Cayo and Toledo, and along Toledo's southern edge. Stann Creek and Belize District face only the sea. The islands off the coast are drawn with Belize District.
The numbers run north to south, from Corozal to Toledo, so the key reads like a trip down the country.
