How this list was compiled: Items made on 2026-10-01; ids, points and accepted spellings are Natural Earth's. THE DRAWING IS DATED: it has the four municipalities of 2009 to 2017 and the national park, not today's five municipalities. The page numbers and asks the three municipalities that were not changed (Kujalleq, Qeqqata, Sermersooq) and the Northeast Greenland National Park; the shape of the former Qaasuitsup, which was divided on 1 January 2018 into Avannaata and Qeqertalik, is in this file for the drawing and is never asked. The five municipalities of today, the partition of Qaasuitsup and the national park as an unincorporated area larger than any municipality were read on 2026-10-01 at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Administrative_divisions_of_Greenland, which agrees with the points file on all of them. How it works

This Greenland outline map opens on the plain outline of the island, with the Arctic islands of Canada and Iceland as plain land beside it. Switch Borders on for municipality borders and the national park.

Outline first

The sheet opens with nothing inside the outline, fjords and all. Press Print this map for a sheet to mark towns, the ice sheet or a route on. Borders adds the lines between the municipalities.

What the borders show

Numbered and Named label four areas: Sermersooq, Qeqqata and Kujalleq, three of the five municipalities, and the Northeast Greenland National Park, which belongs to no municipality. The unlabeled area in the northwest was one municipality until 2018 and is now two, Avannaata and Qeqertalik.

  • Nuuk, the capital, is in Sermersooq on the southwest coast: have students mark it on the plain outline first.

Questions and answers

Is Greenland a country?

It is an autonomous territory in the Kingdom of Denmark with its own government, and the largest island in the world. Nuuk is its capital and largest city.

How many municipalities does Greenland have?

Five: Avannaata, Kujalleq, Qeqertalik, Qeqqata and Sermersooq. This map has the borders of before 2018, when Avannaata and Qeqertalik were still one municipality, so it labels the other three.

What is the large area in the northeast?

The Northeast Greenland National Park. It lies in no municipality and is bigger than any of them, and nobody lives there all year.
