How this list was compiled: Items made on 2026-10-01; names, ids, points, rings and accepted spellings are Natural Earth's. The 36 items are the shapes the points file groups as Latin America and the Caribbean (everything south of the United States). Each one stands under 'Latin America and the Caribbean' in the United Nations Statistics Division's list of regions (M49, https://unstats.un.org/unsd/methodology/m49/, read 2026-10-01), which also gives the three parts used as sets here: Central America (with Mexico), the Caribbean and South America. 33 of the 36 are member states of the United Nations (https://www.un.org/en/about-us/member-states, read 2026-10-01) and are the places the page numbers and asks. Puerto Rico (United States), French Guiana (France) and the Falkland Islands (administered by the United Kingdom, claimed by Argentina) are shapes that are drawn and never asked. The page shows the part of the drawing from Mexico to Cape Horn. Licence: public domain (Natural Earth terms of use: https://www.naturalearthdata.com/about/terms-of-use/)

The drawing: Drawn for this site from Natural Earth 5.1.2, ne_50m_admin_0_countries_lakes (scale 1:50,000,000), https://raw.githubusercontent.com/nvkelso/natural-earth-vector/v5.1.2/geojson/ne_50m_admin_0_countries_lakes.geojson, downloaded 2026-09-19. Lambert azimuthal equal-area projection centred on 12°N 85°W. Outlines simplified; small islands are left out. 7 places are too small to draw at this scale and shown as a dot. How it works

This blank map of Latin America runs from Mexico to the tip of South America, with the Caribbean islands between. Print the Latin American map blank, numbered or named; 33 countries are in the answer key.

Blank, numbered or named

The sheet opens as an outline map of Latin America with its borders. Blank leaves the map of Latin America blank, Numbered gives each of the 33 countries a number and Named writes its name. Press Print this map; Print the answer key gives the names on a second sheet.

Small countries have rings

Brazil, Argentina and Mexico are the largest shapes. Sixteen countries are too small to write on, so a line joins each to a ring: four on the mainland and every Caribbean country but Cuba.

A political map, not a physical one

This is a blank political map of Latin America: countries and borders, no rivers or mountains. It works as a Latin America map without names for a test.

  • Hand out the blank Latin America map first and the Numbered one a week later: the numbers turn the same sheet into a test.
  • For the islands alone, print the blank map of the Caribbean, which draws them much larger.

Questions and answers

Which countries are on a Latin America blank map?

This one numbers the 33 member states of the United Nations in Latin America and the Caribbean: Mexico and the seven countries of Central America, thirteen in the Caribbean and twelve in South America.

Is Latin America the same as South America?

No. Latin America is named for its languages, mainly Spanish and Portuguese, and takes in Mexico, Central America and part of the Caribbean as well. Belize, Guyana, Jamaica and Suriname are in the region on this map but are not Latin American by language.

Why do Puerto Rico and French Guiana have no number?

The map numbers member states of the United Nations. Puerto Rico belongs to the United States and French Guiana to France, so both are drawn without a number.

Are the Falkland Islands on the map?

Some borders on this map are disputed. Disputed areas are shown but not asked. The Falkland Islands, administered by the United Kingdom and claimed by Argentina, are drawn without a number; the Essequibo region, claimed by Venezuela, is drawn with Guyana.

Is there a Latin America and Caribbean map quiz?

Yes. Press Quiz yourself on this map and the page names one country at a time for you to tap, in three sets: Mexico and Central America, the Caribbean, and South America.
