How this list was compiled: Items made on 2026-10-01. The eight items are the statistical regions of North Macedonia, today's units: the State Statistical Office's nomenclature of territorial units has 8 statistical regions at level 3 and 80 municipalities at level 4 (https://www.stat.gov.mk/OblastOpsto_en.aspx?id=1, read 2026-10-01). Each shape was put together by the spec from the municipalities of the boundary source by a table typed from two texts that agree on every row, both read 2026-10-01: the list of municipalities by statistical region at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Municipalities_of_North_Macedonia, and ISO 3166-2:MK as Wikipedia prints it (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-2:MK), whose codes of 2020 start with the number of the region; the result was compared by eye with the State Statistical Office's own map of statistical regions and municipalities (https://www.stat.gov.mk/Images/RegioniGradovi/Statisticki_Opstini_2014_EN.jpg). Labels are the English Wikipedia's (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statistical_regions_of_North_Macedonia: Eastern, Northeastern, Southeastern, Southwestern); the State Statistical Office's English forms (East, Northeast, Southeast, Southwest) are accepted as typed answers. The regions, numbered or named

  • Start with the Skopje region, around the capital. Polog lies to its west and Northeastern to its northeast.

Questions and answers

Is this a map of Macedonia or of North Macedonia?

It is the country of North Macedonia, which was called Macedonia until 2019. Macedonia is also the name of a region of Greece and of an ancient kingdom. This sheet draws neither of those.

Which countries border North Macedonia?

Serbia to the north, Kosovo to the northwest, Albania to the west, Greece to the south and Bulgaria to the east. They are plain land around the outline, without names. Some borders on this map are disputed. Disputed areas are shown but not asked.

How many regions does North Macedonia have?

Eight statistical regions: Eastern, Northeastern, Pelagonia, Polog, Skopje, Southeastern, Southwestern and Vardar. They group the 80 municipalities of the country. All eight are numbered on this map.

What is the capital of North Macedonia?

Skopje, in the north of the country, inside the statistical region of the same name. The city is not marked on this sheet, so there is room to draw it in.
