Blank, numbered or named
The sheet opens blank. Choose Numbered to put a number on Northern Ireland, the two loughs and the three towns, or Named for their names, then press Print this map. Print the answer key gives the names on a sheet of their own.
What the map draws
Lough Neagh is the large lake east of the middle, and Upper Lough Erne the small one in the southwest. Belfast is the dot on the east coast, Derry/Londonderry the one in the northwest and Omagh the one in the west. The land drawn lightly to the south and west is the Republic of Ireland, and the corner at the top right is Scotland.
- The second city has two names in use. The map prints Derry/Londonderry, and the quiz takes either name.
Questions and answers
Does this map show the six counties of Northern Ireland?
No. The six counties are Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Londonderry and Tyrone, but the map source has no lines for them. The inside of the outline is left empty apart from the loughs and towns.
What is the capital of Northern Ireland?
Belfast. On this map it is the dot on the east coast, where a long inlet of the sea reaches into the land.
What is the large lake on the map of Northern Ireland?
Lough Neagh, east of the middle of the map. The smaller lake in the southwest is Upper Lough Erne, in County Fermanagh. Lower Lough Erne, the larger lake north of it, is not in the map source and is not drawn.
Which country borders Northern Ireland?
The Republic of Ireland, to the south and west. Northern Ireland is the United Kingdom's part of the island of Ireland, in the northeast. On this map the Republic is drawn lightly, without a number.
