Blank, numbered or named

The sheet opens blank. Numbered puts a number on each of the 26 states and prints a line for every name; Named writes the names in. Print this map prints the sheet on screen, and Print the answer key prints its key.

A blank map of the eastern US and its coast

The sheet follows the usual school list: the states wholly east of the river, so Minnesota and Louisiana are plain land. To use it as a blank East Coast map, have students shade the 14 states that touch the Atlantic, Maine to Florida. Washington, D.C. is drawn and never numbered.

  • Print it blank and have students color the 14 Atlantic coast states one color and the 12 inland states another.
  • Rhode Island is too small to write on, so its number sits in a ring beside it.

Questions and answers

Which states are on a map of the eastern United States?

The 26 that lie wholly east of the Mississippi River, from Maine to Florida and west to Wisconsin, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi. Minnesota and Louisiana have land on both banks and are left out.

Does the map show the Mississippi River?

Not as a line of its own. The river runs along the western edge of Wisconsin, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi, so the left edge of the numbered states traces most of it.

Can I print only the East Coast states?

No. This sheet always prints all 26. For a closer view of the coast, the Northeast and Southeast blank maps print it in two sheets.
