Outline first
The sheet opens with nothing inside the outline. Press Print this map for a sheet to mark cities, rivers or deserts on. Russia is to the north, China to the east, and Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan to the south. The open water at the lower left is the Caspian Sea.
Why ten regions have numbers
Borders adds the lines of the fourteen regions of before 2018; Kazakhstan has seventeen today. Numbered and Named label the ten whose borders did not change: Akmola, Aktobe, Atyrau, Kostanay, Kyzylorda, Mangystau, North Kazakhstan, Pavlodar, West Kazakhstan and Zhambyl. The four areas that were split stay unlabeled.
- The three regions made in 2022 lie inside unlabeled areas: Abay in the east, Zhetisu in the southeast and Ulytau in the middle.
Questions and answers
How many regions does Kazakhstan have?
Seventeen, and three cities that belong to no region: Astana, Almaty and Shymkent. Abay, Zhetisu and Ulytau were made in 2022. This map has the borders of before 2018, so it labels the ten regions that did not change.
What is the capital of Kazakhstan?
Astana. With Borders on it is the small shape inside Akmola, in the north, too small for a number. Almaty, the largest city, was the capital until 1997.
Which lakes are on the map?
Lake Balkhash, the long lake in the southeast, and what is left of the Aral Sea, drawn as two lakes near the border with Uzbekistan. The Caspian Sea is the open water at the lower left. Smaller lakes are not drawn.
Which countries border Kazakhstan?
Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. They are drawn as plain land without names.
