How it works

This continents and oceans crossword puzzle clues each continent and ocean by its size and place, never by name, so the grid is a recall test. A second set holds the map words, from Equator and Hemisphere to Isthmus.

Two sets

Continents and Oceans has the seven continents, the five oceans and the words that group them, such as Eurasia and Oceania. Lines and Landforms covers Latitude, Longitude, Prime meridian, Peninsula, Strait and the two poles. All mixes both.

Print or solve

For a class, Print puts the grid and its clues on paper, with the answer key as the last sheet. On a phone or tablet, tap any square and type. Two-word answers such as North America go in without the space.

  • Say the continents in order of size first: Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, Australia. Most clues use that order.
  • The oceans by size are Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern and Arctic.

Questions and answers

Is there a continents and oceans crossword with answers?

Yes. The answer key prints as the last sheet, and Show all clues and answers, below the puzzle, lists all 33 clues of the two sets, each with its answer.

What are the seven continents and five oceans?

From largest to smallest, the continents are Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe and Australia. The oceans are the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern and Arctic.

Why is the Southern Ocean in the puzzle?

Older lists name four oceans. Most countries, the United States among them, now count the Southern Ocean around Antarctica as the fifth, so the puzzle has five.

Is Australia or Oceania the seventh continent?

Most school lists in English-speaking countries name Australia. Oceania is a wider name that takes in Australia and thousands of small Pacific islands. The puzzle has both words.
