How it works
Label the continents and oceans on a world map with no countries on it: seven shapes of land and five of water. It asks the continents first. The oceans follow.

A continents and oceans map quiz, land first
From largest to smallest the seven continents are Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe and Australia. The five oceans, largest first, are the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Indian, the Southern and the Arctic.
Label the oceans by the land on each side
Each ocean is drawn together with its seas and gulfs, so the Caribbean counts as part of the Atlantic and the water north of Siberia as part of the Arctic. As an oceans map quiz it is short: five answers, each the water between two or three continents. Under Start from, The five oceans asks them alone.
- To label the 7 continents quickly, pair them: North and South America, Europe and Asia, Africa below Europe, then Australia and Antarctica.
- Europe is the smaller part of the landmass it shares with Asia, on the west side.
- The Arctic Ocean is at the top of the map and the Southern Ocean at the bottom, around Antarctica.
Questions and answers
Is there a world map with continent labels to study first?
Yes. Press Show me the labels first and the map writes in the names. The Arctic Ocean, a thin band along the top, gets a ring to tap instead. For paper, More options has a print with the answer key.
Why does this map have five oceans and not four?
Older maps name four. The Southern Ocean, the water around Antarctica, has been recognized as a fifth since 1999 by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names and since 2000 by the International Hydrographic Organization.
Where does Europe end and Asia begin on this map?
At the Ural Mountains and the Caucasus, as the map data draws them. Europe and Asia are one landmass, called Eurasia, so the line between them is a convention and not a coast.
Is Australia a continent or a country?
Both. Australia is the smallest of the seven continents, and a country fills it. Some lists call the continent Oceania or Australasia so that it takes in the islands of the Pacific.
