How this list was compiled: Spanish country names, the article after a name, the continent each country is filed under, capitals and gentilicios: Real Academia Española and Asociación de Academias de la Lengua Española, Diccionario panhispánico de dudas, 2nd edition (provisional version), Apéndice 5, "Lista de países y capitales, con sus gentilicios", https://www.rae.es/dpd/ayuda/paises-y-capitales-con-sus-gentilicios. rae.es answered every automated request with HTTP 403 on 2026-09-20, so the page was read in the Internet Archive copy of 2025-08-23, https://web.archive.org/web/20250823085017/https://www.rae.es/dpd/ayuda/paises-y-capitales-con-sus-gentilicios, read 2026-09-20; the build script stops if a name typed for this file is not in that list. A person should compare the labels with the live page before launch. Articles are optional for most country names and the trend is to leave them out; oceans always take the article: same dictionary, entry "el", section 6, https://web.archive.org/web/20250704174152/https://www.rae.es/dpd/el, read 2026-09-20. The word océano written without a capital letter, and accent marks kept on capital letters: same dictionary, entry "mayúsculas", sections 2 and 5.2.13, https://web.archive.org/web/20260826222926/https://www.rae.es/dpd/may%C3%BAsculas, read 2026-09-20. How it works
This map shows the world labeled in Spanish: 116 countries, Puerto Rico and three oceans. A place lights up, and you pick its Spanish name, such as el Brasil or Alemania, from four. Every name follows the Real Academia Española's country list.

How a round goes
A place lights up and you pick its Spanish name, such as el Perú, from four. After a miss the right name is shown. A round is up to 12 places from one part of the world: América first, then Europa, the oceans with Oceanía, Asia and África.
Type the Spanish name instead
Open More options and choose Type it. Accents are forgiven and the article can be left out, so peru counts for el Perú. Find it runs the other way: a Spanish name is given and you tap or click the place. The same menu switches every name to English.
Only El Salvador writes its article with a capital letter, because there it is part of the name.
Oceans keep their article and a small o: el océano Pacífico, el Atlántico, el Índico.
Print blank gives the numbered map with a line for each name. Print labelled is the answer key.
Questions and answers
What are the continents in Spanish?
Spanish-speaking schools usually teach six: América, Europa, Asia, África, Oceanía and la Antártida. North and South America count as one continent, América. This map groups its countries the same way, so América runs from el Canadá to Chile.
What are the five oceans in Spanish?
El océano Pacífico, el océano Atlántico, el océano Índico, el océano Ártico and el océano Antártico, also called el océano Austral. This map asks the first three. The Arctic is a sliver along its top edge, and the Antarctic lies below its bottom edge.
Which countries take an article in Spanish?
The Real Academia Española prints an optional article after 22 of the names asked here, among them los Estados Unidos, el Reino Unido, la India, el Japón and el Brasil. It adds that the article is mostly left out today. Both count when you type.
Why does the map say Birmania, Bielorrusia and Costa de Marfil?
Those are the Spanish names in the Real Academia Española's list. The United Nations writes Myanmar, Belarús and Côte d'Ivoire in its Spanish documents, and the type-in box accepts those too.
Where do the Spanish names come from?
From the list of countries and capitals in the Diccionario panhispánico de dudas of the Real Academia Española. Its site refused automated reading on the day of the check, so the Internet Archive copy of August 23, 2025 was read instead.
