How this list was compiled: Lengths and mouths: each river's English Wikipedia article (infobox Length, Mouth and Progression rows), checked 2026-09-23; the URL of each is in its item's wikipedia field. Where the infobox gives more than one length (the Congo, the Paraná, the Brahmaputra, the Amur, the Yangtze, the St. Lawrence) lengthKm is the first figure it prints, for the river under its own name. Seas reached by rivers whose infobox mouth is a delta or gulf were checked in the same articles: the Mekong (South China Sea), Lena (Laptev Sea), Ob and Yenisey (Kara Sea), Dnieper (Black Sea), Orange (Atlantic Ocean). How it works

This world rivers map labels 38 great rivers on six continents, with no country borders in the way. Tap a river for its length and the sea it reaches; the quiz asks one region at a time.

A world map with labeled rivers

Study shows every name. The quiz goes region by region, from North America's eight to Australia's Murray and Darling, because at world size a finger covers three rivers at once. Seventeen short or crowded rivers carry a ring.

Pairs that meet

Four pairs join before the sea: the Missouri and Mississippi, the Tigris and Euphrates, the Brahmaputra and Ganges, the Darling and Murray. The Tigris and Euphrates reach the Persian Gulf together as the Shatt al-Arab.

Questions and answers

What is the longest river in the world?

The Nile, at 7,088 km by the length Wikipedia gives, with the Amazon at 6,575 km. Measurements differ with where the source is taken to be, and some put the Amazon first.

Which rivers are on this map?

38: eight in North America, four in South America, five in Europe, six in Africa, and fifteen in Asia and Australia, including the Yangtze, Ganges, Mekong, Ob, Lena and Murray.

Why are there no country borders?

At world size a border looks just like a river. With the borders off, every line on the map is a river.
