The pullover first, then the zip-up
Numbers 1 to 7 are on the pullover: the hood, the drawstring, the kangaroo pocket, a sleeve, a cuff, the waistband and the eyelets. Open the second drawing for 8 to 10. The zip-up hoodie has a zipper down the front with a pull to move it, and its pocket is split into two front pockets, one on each side of the zipper.
- The cuffs and the waistband are rib knit, a stretchy knit of raised stripes. Look for the stripes.
- The big front pocket is also called a pouch pocket or a muff. Either answer is accepted.
Questions and answers
What are the parts of a hoodie called?
A hood, a drawstring that runs through the hood's hem, long sleeves with cuffs, a kangaroo pocket on the lower front and a ribbed waistband along the bottom. A zip-up hoodie adds a zipper and has two front pockets.
What is the pocket on a hoodie called?
A kangaroo pocket. It is one large pocket on the lower front, open at both sides and big enough for both hands. It is also called a pouch pocket or a muff.
What are the strings on a hoodie called?
Together they are the drawstring, also called a drawcord. It is one cord that runs through the hem of the hood and comes out through two eyelets. Pulling it makes the hood opening smaller.
What are the holes for hoodie strings called?
Eyelets or grommets. An eyelet is a small hole with a firm ring round it, which strengthens the opening the cord passes through.
