How a round goes
A part lights up and you pick its Spanish word, such as el volante, from four. After a miss the right word is shown. The first round is 12 parts of the car from outside, la puerta and el limpiaparabrisas among them. The second is 12 parts inside, at the front: the steering wheel, the pedals, the dashboard.
Type the Spanish word instead
Open More options and choose Type it. Accents are forgiven and el or la can be left out, so capo counts for el capó. Find it runs the other way: a Spanish word is given and you tap or click that part. The same menu switches every word to English.
- Every word comes with el or la, because that is how its gender is learned.
- Press Show me the labels first, then tap a part to read its regional words, such as la cajuela.
- Print blank makes a numbered worksheet of both views. The other print button makes its answer key.
Questions and answers
Is the hood el capó or el cofre?
Both are right. El capó is the word the Real Academia Española's dictionary defines. El cofre is what Mexico says, and Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico say el bonete, according to the Diccionario de americanismos. All three count when typed.
How do you say trunk in Spanish?
El maletero in the Real Academia Española's dictionary. Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras say la cajuela, Argentina, Colombia and the Caribbean say el baúl, and Peru, Chile and Venezuela say la maletera. The type-in box accepts all four.
Is a tire la llanta or el neumático?
El neumático is the general word, and la llanta is the tire from Mexico to Argentina. In Spain la llanta is the metal rim the tire sits on, so this quiz asks for the rubber only. Colombia and Venezuela also say el caucho.
Is a car el coche, el carro or el auto?
All three. WordReference marks el coche as the word of Spain, and el carro and el auto as Latin American. El automóvil is the formal word everywhere.
Where were the Spanish words checked?
Every label was read in two dictionaries, WordReference and SpanishDict, and is the word the Real Academia Española's dictionary defines the part under. The countries of each regional word come from the Diccionario de americanismos of 2010.
