How this list was compiled: Items made on 2026-10-01. The 16 items are islands and island groups, not districts: each shape was joined by a typed table from the district shapes of Natural Earth, so no district line is drawn (the source has 29 districts and New Providence; the Bahamas has 31 districts and New Providence today, ISO 3166-2:BS as Wikipedia prints it, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-2:BS, read 2026-10-01). The list of 16 was read on 2026-10-01 on the islands page of the Bahamas' ministry of tourism (https://www.bahamas.com/islands, 'Our 16 Islands': The Abacos, Acklins & Crooked Island, Andros, The Berry Islands, Bimini, Cat Island, Eleuthera & Harbour Island, The Exumas, Freeport - Grand Bahama Island, Inagua, Long Island, Mayaguana, Nassau & Paradise Island, Ragged Island, Rum Cay, San Salvador), and every name was found the same day in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_islands_of_The_Bahamas (Abaco Islands, Acklins Island, Crooked Island, Andros, Berry Islands, Bimini, Cat Island, Eleuthera Island, Exumas, Grand Bahama, Great Inagua Island, Long Island, Mayaguana, New Providence, Great Ragged Island, Rum Cay, San Salvador). Labels are the plain forms; the ministry's forms are accepted answers, and Nassau is accepted for New Providence, the island it stands on (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bahamas, lead: Nassau, the capital and largest city, is on New Providence island). Six rings stand where this page puts them and not where the points file has them, so that the leader line of each runs up to its name and does not strike through it on the Named sheet: Berry Islands, Bimini, New Providence and Ragged Island straight above their islands, Rum Cay and San Salvador above and to the right, far enough apart for every name to fit. Joined: the Abaco Islands with Moore's Island; Andros with Mangrove Cay; Eleuthera with Harbour Island and Spanish Wells; Exuma with Black Point; Grand Bahama with Freeport; Acklins with Crooked Island. The drawing: Drawn for this site on 2026-10-04 from Natural Earth public domain map data, by a script that projects the data and draws nothing by hand: the islands from Natural Earth 5.1.2, ne_10m_admin_1_states_provinces (scale 1:10,000,000), with the districts of the Bahamas joined into 16 islands and island groups; Florida and Cuba from ne_10m_admin_0_countries; the tinted shallow water of the Bahama Banks from Natural Earth 4.1.0 bathymetry, ne_10m_bathymetry_K_200 (the 200 metre depth line), https://github.com/nvkelso/natural-earth-vector/tree/v5.1.2. The outlines of Florida, Cuba and the depth line are simplified; small islands are left out. Licence: public domain (Natural Earth terms of use: https://www.naturalearthdata.com/about/terms-of-use/)

How it works

This Bahamas blank map shows the main islands and island groups, from Grand Bahama and the Abaco Islands in the north to Inagua in the south. The tips of Florida and Cuba are plain land at the edges.

Blank, numbered or named

The sheet opens blank. Choose Numbered to put a number on each of the 16 islands and island groups, or Named for their names, then press Print this map. The answer key prints on its own sheet. Printed with numbers, it is a blank map of the Bahamas worksheet: students write each name beside its number.

Rings for the small islands

Eight islands are too small to write on, among them New Providence, the island of Nassau, the capital. A short line leads out from each one into open water, and its number or name stands at the end of the line. Andros is the largest shape on the map.

  • Start in the north with Grand Bahama and the Abaco Islands, then follow the chain southeast to Mayaguana and Inagua.

Questions and answers

Is there a Bahamas map quiz?

Yes. Press Quiz yourself on this map and the page names one island at a time for you to tap. The quiz uses the same 16 islands and island groups as the printed sheet.

How many islands are in the Bahamas?

About 700, and around 30 of them are inhabited. This map numbers the 16 main islands and island groups, the list the country's tourism ministry uses.

Which island is Nassau on?

New Providence, a small island between Andros and Eleuthera. Nassau is the capital and the largest city of the Bahamas. On the numbered map the island's number stands in a ring above it.

Why are some islands one item on the map?

The sheet follows the ministry's list. Acklins and Crooked Island, two islands side by side, are one item. Small islands close to a large one are drawn with it: Spanish Wells with Eleuthera, Moore's Island with the Abaco Islands.
