The drawing: Drawn for this site on 2026-10-05 from Natural Earth public domain map data, by a script that projects the data and draws nothing by hand: the islands and the mainland from Natural Earth 5.1.2, ne_10m_admin_0_countries (scale 1:10,000,000), downloaded 2026-09-19; two lakes from ne_10m_lakes; the two tints of the sea from Natural Earth 4.1.0 bathymetry, ne_10m_bathymetry_K_200 (the 200 metre depth line), https://github.com/nvkelso/natural-earth-vector/tree/v5.1.2. Which islands are on the map

All 13 island countries in the United Nations are here, from Cuba, the largest, to Saint Kitts and Nevis, the Western Hemisphere's smallest sovereign state. For a Caribbean countries quiz, pick The 13 countries under Start from and the territories drop out. The 15 territories are tied to the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands or the United States: Puerto Rico, Aruba and Martinique are three.

How a round works when the islands are tiny

Four more sets zoom the map: Greater Antilles and the Bahamas (8), Leeward Islands (10), Windward Islands and Barbados (6), and Trinidad and the ABC islands (4). 21 of the 28 are too small to tap, so each has a ring. On a phone, zoom to the Leeward Islands first, where ten rings sit close together.

  • From Guadeloupe south, French and English-speaking islands alternate: Guadeloupe, Dominica, Martinique, Saint Lucia. Then come Saint Vincent and Grenada.
  • The ABC islands do not sit in ABC order. From west to east off Venezuela they run Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire.
  • Dominica is the small island between Guadeloupe and Martinique. The Dominican Republic shares Hispaniola with Haiti, far to the northwest.

Questions and answers

How many countries are in the Caribbean?

Thirteen island countries sit in the United Nations: Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Cuba, Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago. Longer lists add mainland Belize, Guyana and Suriname.

Which islands on the map are split in two?

Two. Hispaniola holds Haiti in the west and the Dominican Republic in the east. Saint Martin, 87 square kilometers, has been divided since 1648: French Saint Martin is the northern part, and Dutch Sint Maarten the smaller southern part.

How do you spell Caribbean?

Caribbean, with one r and two b's. Typed answers forgive a missing accent or one slipped letter, so Curacao counts, and short forms such as St Lucia, St Barts and BVI are accepted.

Can I use this Caribbean island map quiz in class?

Yes. Print blank gives a numbered map with 28 answer lines, and Print labelled makes the answer key. Greater Antilles and the Bahamas is the easiest group to start with.
