Each municipality is a button. Use the arrow keys to move between them and Enter to choose. Names are read out in Study, and once a municipality is answered.
How this list was compiled: Items made on 2026-10-01; ids are the Census Bureau's five-digit codes, and the points and the six sets are that file's (the one ring of the points file, Cataño's, is left out: its leader line would stand alone on the plain outline the page opens on). The labels are the short names (Mayagüez); the Census Bureau's full form (Mayagüez Municipio) is accepted as an answer. All 78 names and codes were compared on 2026-10-01 with the table of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Municipalities_of_Puerto_Rico and every one is on it. The six sets (West, San Juan area, North, South, Central mountains, East) are cut by boxes of longitude and latitude as an aid for this page; they are not an official division of Puerto Rico. How it works
This Puerto Rico outline map opens on the plain outline of the main island, with Vieques and Culebra to the east. Switch Borders on for the 78 municipalities, blank, numbered or named.

Outline first, municipalities second
The sheet opens with nothing inside the outline. Borders adds the lines between the municipalities; Numbered and Named then label them. Press Print this map, and Print the answer key for the names.
Seventy-eight municipalities
Puerto Rico has no counties: its 78 municipalities do that job. San Juan, the capital, has the most people. Arecibo is the largest in area and Cataño the smallest.
Seventy-eight numbers fill the island: print the plain outline for a first lesson and keep the numbered sheet for later.
Questions and answers
How many municipalities does Puerto Rico have?
Seventy-eight. Two are islands of their own, Vieques and Culebra, off the east coast. The Census Bureau counts the municipalities as the equivalent of counties.
Is Puerto Rico a state?
No. It is an unincorporated territory of the United States with its own government. Its capital and largest city is San Juan, on the north coast.
Is there a Puerto Rico map quiz?
Yes. Press Quiz yourself on this map and the page names one municipality at a time for you to tap. A round can take one part of the island, such as the west or the San Juan area.
Which islands are left off?
Mona and Desecheo, two small islands that belong to Mayagüez, lie off the west coast and are outside the frame. Vieques and Culebra are on the map.
