How this list was compiled: The 31 provinces and the Distrito Nacional, read on 2026-10-01 in the list of ISO 3166-2 codes for the Dominican Republic as Wikipedia prints it (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-2:DO) and at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provinces_of_the_Dominican_Republic; every name is on both. Elías Piña, Hermanas Mirabal and Distrito Nacional stand under today's names where the boundary data has an older or a shorter one; the older names La Estrelleta and Salcedo are accepted answers. Haiti is land at the left edge that is not numbered or asked. Outlines: Natural Earth 5.1.2, credited under the drawing. Blank, numbered or named
The sheet opens blank. Choose Numbered to put a number on each of the 32 shapes, or Named for their names, then press Print this map. Print the answer key gives the names on a sheet of its own. Switch Borders off for the plain outline of the country.
The east of Hispaniola
The Dominican Republic is the eastern part of Hispaniola. The Distrito Nacional, on the south coast inside Santo Domingo province, is so small that its number covers it. The long lake in the southwest is Lake Enriquillo, between Baoruco and Independencia.
Older names count as right answers: La Estrelleta for Elías Piña and Salcedo for Hermanas Mirabal. So does the spelling El Seybo.
Questions and answers
How many provinces does the Dominican Republic have?
It has 31 provinces. The capital, Santo Domingo, lies in the Distrito Nacional, a district of its own with a standing equal to the provinces, so the map has 32 shapes.
Which is the largest province of the Dominican Republic?
San Juan, in the west, followed by La Altagracia at the eastern tip. Hermanas Mirabal is the smallest province, and the Distrito Nacional is smaller still.
Is Haiti on the map?
Only its eastern edge, as plain land without a name, to show where the border runs. The sheet is a map of the Dominican Republic, not of the whole island.
Which are the newest provinces?
San José de Ocoa and Santo Domingo province, both made in the early 2000s. Santo Domingo province surrounds the Distrito Nacional on the south coast.
