How it works

This blank map of the Eastern Hemisphere prints Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia on one sheet, with every country's border. Choose Numbered and the 91 largest countries carry a number; choose Named for the labeled answer key.

Read the full guide

Blank, numbered, or a labeled map of the Eastern Hemisphere

The sheet opens blank. Numbered puts a number on 91 countries: 39 in Africa, 31 in Asia, 18 in Europe, and Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. Named writes their names instead. Press Print this map; the answer key prints on a sheet of its own.

Where this map draws the line

The Eastern Hemisphere is the half of Earth east of the prime meridian and west of the 180th meridian. The prime meridian cuts through Britain, France, Spain and West Africa, so this sheet starts a little farther west and keeps every country of Europe and Africa whole.

  • The smallest countries are dots with no number. To label those, print one continent at a time from the list of blank maps.

Questions and answers

What is in the Eastern Hemisphere?

Everything east of the prime meridian and west of the 180th meridian. The name is also used for Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia together, in contrast with the Western Hemisphere, which is mainly North and South America.

Why does the map show land west of the prime meridian?

So that no country is cut in two. Iceland, Ireland and Portugal lie entirely west of that line, and so does the western bulge of Africa, but a school map of the Eastern Hemisphere shows them.

Is Antarctica on the map?

No. The drawing leaves Antarctica out, so that the countries can be printed as large as the sheet allows.

Are disputed borders marked?

Some borders on this map are disputed. Disputed areas are shown but not asked. Only member states of the United Nations carry a number; other areas are drawn as the map source draws them.
