How it works

This Jamaica map quiz asks for the 14 parishes of the island's three old counties on a blank map, the five of the west first. Kingston, the smallest parish, is too small to tap, so it carries a ring off the south coast.

Read the full guide

Cornwall first, then the rest

The first round is Cornwall, the five western parishes, with Westmoreland at the tip of the island. The second asks the other nine: the five of Middlesex, from Saint Ann to Saint Mary, and the four of Surrey, around Kingston and the Blue Mountains.

Capitals that are not Kingston

Every parish has a capital of its own. Show me the labels first writes the 14 names on the map; tap a parish there to read its capital. Two to know: Saint James is governed from Montego Bay, and Saint Catherine from Spanish Town, the national capital until 1872.

  • Every parish touches the sea, so no shape is hidden in the middle of the island.
  • Seven names begin with Saint. Along the north coast they run west to east: Saint James, Saint Ann, Saint Mary.

Questions and answers

How many parishes are in Jamaica?

Fourteen, the same list since 1867, and all 14 are asked here. In February 2025 Jamaica's parliament voted to make Portmore, a city in Saint Catherine, a fifteenth parish; this map, like the ISO 3166-2 list, still has 14.

What are the three counties of Jamaica?

Cornwall in the west, Middlesex in the middle and Surrey in the east. They were set up in 1758 and have no role in government today. Cornwall and Middlesex hold five parishes each and Surrey four.

Which parish is Kingston in?

Two. The small parish of Kingston holds downtown Kingston, on the harbor, and most of the city lies in Saint Andrew, the parish around it. One corporation runs both parishes.

What is the smallest parish in Jamaica?

Kingston, by a wide margin. Saint Ann, on the north coast, is the largest by area. Saint Andrew had the most people in the 2011 census and Hanover, on the northwest tip, the fewest.
