Questions and answers
How do you say Latin America in Spanish?
Latinoamérica, always one word, or América Latina: the Real Academia Española calls both correct. Hispanoamérica means the Spanish-speaking countries alone, and Iberoamérica adds Brazil. The adjective is latinoamericano.
What are the Latin American countries in Spanish?
México, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panamá, Cuba, República Dominicana, Haití, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Perú, Bolivia, Brasil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile, with Puerto Rico, a territory of the United States.
Is Brazil a Spanish-speaking country?
No. Portuguese is spoken in Brazil and French in Haiti. Both belong to Latin America because those languages come from Latin, as Spanish does. The other eighteen countries on this map, and Puerto Rico, are Spanish-speaking.
What are the capitals of Latin America in Spanish?
Most match the English: Lima, Quito, Caracas, Managua. Five are translated: Ciudad de México, Ciudad de Guatemala, La Habana (Havana), Puerto Príncipe (Port-au-Prince) and Panamá (Panama City). Bolivia has two, Sucre and La Paz.
